I painted this iris intending to "loosen" my control...lowering the degree of detail. Usually, I would give a dark background to let the flower "pop". However, my artist friends in the critique group (in Santa Fe) all voted for leaving it white. I've since reproduced this image, in much smaller version, onto tiles. It works really nice for tiles.
